Metal buildings have come a long way over the years. From just being a 12′ regular single carport up to now being able to be a 60′ clear span commercial structure.  This metal buildings can be installed in most locations, but they all do require different site preparation. We recommend you follow to these steps to prepare your site for installation.

Permits

Zoning and permitting vary from one county to another, and you must get approval from both before any new construction. If your building is installed without meeting zoning code requirements and securing the proper permits, you can end up paying costly fines and/or disassembling the building. This is why we highly recommend checking with your local zoning and permitting department to ensure that you meet all requirements. Stallion Metal Buildings NCis not responsible for any permits needed by our customers.

Gravel/Asphalt Foundation

If your new metal building is going to be on a ground foundation it is important that the surface is no more than 3″ off level. Failing to have a leveled site you may have problems with roll up doors not closing evenly at the bottom and walk in doors not closing properly. In some cases, you may be required to pay a “leg cutting fee” to make your metal structure leveled and fit your site. If you are not sure how to get your site leveled, you can call us with any questions on how to get your site leveled.

Concrete Foundation

All concrete pads must be leveled and squared. The size of the pad is determined by the size of the building, please keep in mind that the frame length is 1′ shorter than the roof length. (Example: 24′ wide x 26′ long building will require a 24′ wide x 25′ long concrete pad). As mentioned before, all counties have different requirements so please contact your local County Office to make sure you meet all the requirements.

Metal Building Insulation

These are the two common types of insulation used on some of our buildings.

2″ Fiberglass Insulation: Is a reinforced metal building insulation with a 30 lb tensile strength and 90 psi puncture testing consisting of polypropylene scrim film with a metalized polyester film laminated to the back of the facing for reflective heat radiation and vapor barrier.

Double bubble Insulation

Double Bubble: Double bubble insulation redirects 96% of radiant heat, and features an extra layer of bubbles to provide maximum protection against condensation build-up in colder temperatures. 100% vapor barrier, Class A/Class 1 fire rating, and is approx 1/4″ thick.

Anchors

Here are the anchors that are used on the metal buildings/carports based on the type of foundation the customer has.

A) Wedge Concrete Anchor: They provide strength for both pullout and shear force. All buildings/carports installed on concrete surfaces will have a concrete bolt beside every leg of each base rail and every beam of the end walls.

B) Asphalt Anchor: This anchor is used only on asphalt surfaces and is approx 30″ long.

C) Mobile Home Anchor: This anchor is used only on ground/gravel surfaces and is approx 30″ long.

D) Rebar Anchor: This is the standard anchor whether the building/carport is going to be installed on a ground or asphalt surface and is approx 36″ long.

Installation

This step may be the final step, but it is as important as the other steps as well. Just so you know once you have your installation appointment set the installation crew will arrive in a pick-up truck hauling a 30′ long trailer. If your metal carport/building is going to be installed on a ground/asphalt surface, please mark any utility lines running underneath the planned installation site. If you are not sure of the exact location of any water, gas, or electric lines please call 811 and have them come out and mark the lines free of charge. Once you have your utilities marked out, we recommend you clear or move any obstacles in and around the site. Failing to do so may result in paying a “build over fee”. Installation crew needs at least 36″ all around of the building to fasten panels, trim, and move ladders. If you like to see the installation process, we suggest that you stay at least 20 feet from the installation site. This will prevent any accidents since the crew is working with sharp metals.  If you have any questions or concerns during the installation, please contact the installation crew leader and he will be able to assist you.
